Maddy

I love art and science, and I want to be an artist when I grow up, like my Uncle David. He kind of is my master in the art of art.  I’ve been doing art since I was about 3 years old, and I’m 9 years old now.
My favorite book is My Lucky Day.  I love the pictures in it.  The author and illustrator is Keiko Kasza.  She or he is an amazing author and illustrator.  I want to be as good as he or she when I grow up.

Art is fun for me, and I like using it for expressing myself if I don’t want to talk at the moment. I really like drawing, especially animals. Sometimes I do painting, but not very much.  In almost every picture I make, there is an animal. Sometimes with drawing you can show someone something new.
Science is interesting. You get to learn new things and sometimes to discover things. Science can really help you sometimes.  Some science has math in it, and I really enjoy doing math.

Síonna

What I like about science is that it’s fun to experiment and learn things like how to dissect a frog or make a medicine.  It helps me understand life and the world.  You can be a chemist, a marine biologist or a gymnast. I like gymnastics and science leads me towards it, to know about the beam and how the body works.
Art is creative.  You can get really good at it and that feels awesome!  I like to make sketches, to make lots of light lines that are like brush strokes.  At the end, you erase the ones you don’t want and the picture looks more realistic.
I started making art when I was one year old and I still love doing it. My favorite thing to draw right now is seals.  Seals swim up-down, up-down like dolphins, using their flippers to glide through the water. People need to help them by not killing them.

I like art because you get to explore and create with or whatever you want. You can use all sorts of materials like markers, crayons, paint, watercolors or oil pastels.  Each painting or drawing is unique—you can never make anything exactly the same with your hands, no matter how hard you try.
I like science because you get to observe and try to make certain things happen. Or add certain liquids with certain liquids to get explosions or a solid. And you really get to learn a lot by getting to see the actual thing happen yourself.
It’s easy to do it, anyone can!  It is just two steps:
      1) make a prediction,
      2) observe.

Ma'ata

I like art because it is fun and it is an amazing activity. I started drawing lines, then I would shape them.  My favorite type of art is painting. It is fun to mix colors and have them turn out the way you want them to be. You cannot do that with other types of art.  I was not taught to draw these types of things—dogs, penguins, animals.  I love to draw with pencils, markers or crayons.  It is my most favorite thing.  I love to draw people in all kinds of ways.
Science is interesting because I learn things I didn’t know about from the past. I like  marine biology because I got to go to the beach a lot in Samoa.  It was scary when a shark was chasing me and almost ate me. My teacher told us a lot about stuff like deep-sea squid that I liked.

Mariana

I collect a lot of things. I also see things in a different way than other people do. I create unusual things that are interesting.
My interest in art is art is magical, it can whirl your mind in different directions. What I'm saying is that art is amazing to a lot of people.
My interest in science is you can learn a lot from it. You can learn about animals, their use of life, their life form.
This is who I am, what I like, and the amazing scenes of my life.

Ananya

I like science because it is interesting and fun to learn and do lots of experiments.
In art, I like to draw and paint flowers, hearts and houses.  I also made bird nests and things from clay.  In my crafts class, I made Chinese New Year dragons, trees, masks, and snowflakes for my window.
My dad is an artist and teaches me.  He made a forest for me.  When I grow up, I might be an artist.

Paula

I love to draw and to see other people’s art.  It gives me ideas.  I can draw anything but not all of it is really good.
There is science in drawing because science is actually movement and you are moving when you are drawing.  There is science in creating things.
I like marine biology. I got to swim with the dolphins in Mexico.  One lifted me up on its tail—that’s how strong the tail is.  Another one kissed me.  I like studying animals, not so much plants like seaweed.  I like to learn how and what fish eat and how their bodies work, where they live and what they need so we can help preserve them.

Leah

Hi!  What I like about science is that it helps us to develop technology that does cool things. Doctors use science to learn how to save lives and help mothers give birth to healthy babies. Science also helps us make toys!
My art sometimes has some of my favorite animals in it and other things like flowers and hearts. I like sketching with a pencil and blending color to color.

Ella

Hi, I’m Ella.  I am 9 years old.  I live in Boulder, Colorado.  I think art can be expressed in all kinds of ways.  I put one of my pictures upside down because I want to be weird.
When I heard we were drawing pictures to be in an art show, I was so excited! My best friend, Síonna, was so excited, too.
I do not like doing worksheets, so I can do and write my own stories.  Sometimes when I mess up in art, it turns into something good, not bad!
      Sometimes I am shy.
Art is a very beautiful thing.

Cashlin

I like art because I get to express my feelings.
I like science, too because I learn new things I didn't really know about.  I am a good cartoon artist and sometimes I'm a good scientist.  I like to get out my telescope and look at the stars and planets.

Emily

It’s fun being creative.  I like drawing and especially painting where I can make cool lines with my finger.  You can make straight lines with a ruler doing both, but it’s easier to make curvy lines when you’re painting.
What I like about marine biology is that my favorite animal lives in the ocean, the dolphin.  I got to swim with dolphins in Mexico. I love seeing them jumping out of the water.  Two of them came up behind me as I lay there and pushed me through the water.

Paige

I love art and writing.  They are both my favorite things to do.  A lot of people say that I'm the best author or artist they have ever seen.
I don't know what to say about that though.
